It is not uncommon for
people to be held on a standstill while waiting for the Social Security
Administration (SSA) to process their claims. The waiting time for a hearing
with an Administrative Law Judge can take a year or even longer. Even worse,
some people patiently wait the entire time only to find out that their claim
has been denied. If you can’t possibly afford waiting for the average amount of
time it takes for the SSA to process your claim, you there are a few things you
can do.
Get
Some Help
Applying on your own is
already as difficult as it is. With assistance, it could go much faster. You
will still be going through the right channels but you will have helpful
insight an average applicant would not have otherwise. This way, you will get
to finish putting together the requirements quicker and getting them to where
they need to be. A help will also give the advantage of staying updated as to
what the status of your claim is.
Dire
Need Letter
If you absolutely can’t
wait too long to be scheduled with an Administrative Law Judge, you can opt to
send the SSA a dire need letter. A dire need letter is a letter stating a valid
reason why waiting the normal amount of time an applicant will have to wait.
For instance, you need to take prescription drugs right away or you are facing
a home foreclosure.
